The Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act with Stephen Ayer
Ask what they want.
I don’t want to say anything that is not true. I would just verify what the delusions is. I don’t have to agree with the delusion. I can say that I had delusions too and I just stopped believing in them. The person will just say that doesn’t work and won’t work. It worked for me and the person doesn’t believe it will work.
I was sick and I didn’t need any help because I stopped believing in the hallucinations and delusions.
It's hard to do with them when she believed and tells everybody I am trafficking her and our 3 year old daughter yells outside our home that I'm a rapist and a murderer. These accusations have serious consequences if anyone actually thinks any truth to them I have almost gotten into physical confrontations several times with someone who thought they were helping a victim of a terrible crime. Obviously it hurts badly that someone you love thinks your the worst horrible human being and would do that to their wife or children. I don't know what to do
❤ 28:44 you are so brave!
Great lecture!
I wonder why Scott came to the seminar in the first place.
From what I'm understanding the scenario is fake. They're using him as a demonstration.
Td is caused by the antipsychotics
Doesn't matter if we treat them with empathy and understanding exactly like this, my schizophrenic son still refuses medication. He is reluctantly agreeing to "talk therapy" at mental health center which is not doing much good, so tell us how to get them to take medication because this method doesn't work
Have you asked him why he is refusing medications? Ask him why and try to acknowledge his fears and tell him I'd be scared too then ask him if he would just try it bc what would he have to lose?
Same with my son 🙏
My son was susceptible to the argument that if he wouldn't take his medicine, he would be involuntarily taken to a psychiatric ward and he wouldn't have anything to say over his medicines and what he takes
The low volume is disappointing, I SO need this info. Even with a Bluetooth speaker, won’t go loud enough.

My daughter is going through bipolar depression psychosis and has been in a and out of the hospital doses not aware shes ill.. she 33 years old she was diagnosed with bipolar 2 since she was 23 but now shes worse... I'm so stuck I already had the pep team take her to the hospital several times 7 times in a year ...

I admit I'm so sick with ADHD I haven't been treated for it yet

Don't Take Abilify drug Folks it's horrible medication
And I feel better not being on that horrible medication
Things can be worked out as told by paul mccartney.
I don’t agree with his theory, it doesn’t work for everyone. Not every is the same. It’s really hard to agree with them when they aren’t aware they are sick and need help. You just can’t agree with everything they say, not everyone reacts the same
I don't need help. I'm perfectly normal. Ty For caring.
They seriously need to make a movie using his book as the script
The hardest part is trying to help someone when your their delusion or the enemy…💔💔💔💔💔
Amen
I couldn't agree more!! How do we do this when we r the enemy in their heads
Back in the late 1980s I worked for a rather large residential rehab agency for the mentally ill. One of the residents was plagued by vampires. He'd point out passers-by and say, "Look at that guy! He's a vampire!" The staff would say that they didn't see any vampires and "Bob" would expressed stunned disbelief that we weren't absolutely terrified to live in a city where vampires strolled down the street in broad daylight with blood dripping down their chins. Then one day one of the Treatment Specialists came to the Treatment Specialist meeting and announced cheerfully, "I've cured Bob." That got our attention. She had told Bob, "Personally, I don't think there's any vampires, but I also know that I don't know everything. There could very well be vampires and for some reason I just never became aware of them. So I really don't know anything about vampires. Tell me about vampires." She heard Bob out about the vampires for a while then asked him how vampires could be kept away. Bob said that they avoided silver and garlic The woman suggested that Bob find a way to keep the vampires at bay. The next time she saw him he was in very high spirits, walking around with a cake slicer in one had and a container of garlic salt in the other. He announced that no vampires had bothered him at all since he started carrying silver and garlic everywhere he went. The staff suggested that Bob might find a less cumbersome approach. So he bought a silver pendant to wear around his neck and filled a small envelope with garlic powder to put in his pocket. No more vampires. We were duly impressed.
The strangest belief is belief that psychiatric "treatment" is in anyway helpful.
Thank you so much for putting this up. Are there similar videos or a channel that gives more insight into this condition? Especially one that patients can watch and it's about patients talking about what helped them?
Living well with schizophrenia is a good you tube channel..
@@chrystaldurnford8613 thank you! Will check it out
Excellent questions and answers reveal that treatments need to be modified and implimention of the new "Mental Health and Addictions Services Act". RCMP, police and the law courts need clear framework to carry out their duties.
I listened to this last night till 3 am. My mom is in a hospital bc of schizophrenia. Her old Dr had her on some powerful meds that were causing her episode's. We had a meeting and this helped me to talk her through staying at the hospital to get off the meds and to get help. This was aprocess that took me alnost 20 years of being in and out of the hospital. God is good
You are a beautiful soul and your mom is very lucky to have your caring, love and support in her life. Wishing you all the best on this journey.
he should repeat the questions /comments so we can know what they said
Great insight into this. I wish I had this Knology sooner. I have been dealing with my son for the last few years and almost made it work out and got him to move forward. I just lost my cool last night after 6 hours of trying to help him from sleeping outside in the cold weather. I pushed him to my breaking point and wish I could have used the LEAP to support him. I feel that I let him down and just could not understand why he did not want help or was aware he was sick. Now I understand but fear I lost his trust!
❤we are not born all-knowledgeable, do your best and let the rest go, that you are here learning says a lot!
Very very insightful.....thank you
Thank you so much for posting this!! incredibly valuable, and will change the way I practice
Thank you very much. Helping a friend deal with a mental disorder and this was extremely insightful.
What if your Son thinks he's Apollo the Greek God...We feel helpless...
The concern I have always had - the conclusion is predetermined, and the prognosis is always you need some drug or the other. I am not convinced that this is the answer, because as a scientist, I would rather have questions I can't answer than answers I can't question.
Well said!
This is the type of answer that gets people to not trust psychologists or psychiatrists at all.
There is a microphone and these people are too lazy to get up and use it. Pathetic
So, you're saying you think these people are lazy and pathetic? 😂 Here, let me go empathy - because you sure don't have any! lol Oh, I didn't, never mind. You learn some first.
LOBOTOMIZE very easy soluyion.
christine filas maybe the heat in Tell effected your spelling ? Get an education evil one.
It would be more humane for you to shoot someone than to lobotomize someone. Lobotomy just annihlates a person's higher brain functions. It is criminal, and borders on a crime against humanity.
Dumb bitch
@@damiensidhu1773 a very very dumb bitch
loonies are manipulators, lying sacks of shit.
If you are crazy enough to agree with the nut job you are associating with you both need to be lobotomized!
Who is crazy here? WHY would you ask a lunatic about symptoms? they are nut jobs!!!
You sound like you may have a screw or two loose yourself ma'am.
6 mil. whack jobs running around! That is terrifying!!!!
christine filas Shame on you for being so disrespectful.
the only whack job is you.

How do I help with my daughter and this illnes?? My daughter is currently hospitalized and VERY CONFUSED. When she went to the hospital she picked a chair up and threw it because the devil was present!! However my daughter had a religious upbringing and talk's about Jesus most of the time. However if she's gonna be like this for the rest of her life I would much rather her see Jesus than the devil for the rest of her life!! 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Kissesmom1 I am currently learning how to help my husband with this. if you want to have someone who understands what you are going through to talk to please feel free to respond to this comment.

@@dianakarina8080 I am very sorry but I cannot be of any help. I failed him. He went down so deep and I allowed him to drag me down so far that I had to walk away before I ended up succumbing to madness. I couldn't cut it no matter how hard I tried

making a person useless and looking like a zombie and living by medicine is treatment wow I prefer dyeing ..literally
Dario Delgado hi
Cecilia Puhl hi
So seeing demons and angels with flaming swords is better than being medicated? Hearing people screaming or talking to you when there is nobody there is better than being medicated? Not being able to carry on a coherent conversation is better than taking meds. I tell you I was of the same opinion as you until last week. My son has a new girlfriend and she is doing all this stuff and hasnt been out of the mental facility but 4 or 5 months, off her meds. He has been dating her 3 mons. and she didnt tell him she is paranoid schizoid/ bipolar.
Guessing you learn your science on Sundays
@@damiensidhu1773 Is that necessary? Asshole.
Did Dr. Amador's brother Henry get Schizophenic because he felt overwhelmed having to take on the role of father after their father passed away? Just a guess.
jaworskij No. then most people, when get overwhelmed by life would get schizophrenia. There are other variables that contribute to the manifestation of the illness.
Interesting theory. I do believe insanity is a psychological way of escaping the family. I've had psychosis and my son has it at the moment.
My nephew has schizophrenia and would not take help. Yesterday he killed his father who has let him stay with him for a year and a half. It's a tragedy to say the least.
Patty J sorry to hear that dear. So sad especially since he's not responsible.
Omg!! I'm so scared of this with my scizophrenic family member. 😳😳 I'm sorry for ur loss
This is so helpful. Thanks for putting this up!
Again, folks didn't use the microphone but once so we can't hear what audience participants are saying!!
I really wish I could hear the questions and statements made by the audience. Please either repeat them or have a microphone available for participants.
i wish i could hear him better..this is the second video i've watched of his & he is way too quiet or the sound not great somehow...even on full volume
